We are excited to welcome you to the first annual Birdy Open Feis in Northville, Michigan. This new feis replaces the Birch Run Feis, so that our competitors are closer to the Detroit Airport and area. The Birdy Open is unlike most Feis' in that we accomodate most organizations and do not adhere to just one organizations's rules. Please check out out the website: https://dancenlda.com/ to find our rules. If there is a rule that inhibits you from coming or you have a question regarding the rules, please contact us.
This Feis welcomes all ages and we hope to see lots of adults as well as children. We will run a normal schedule starting with beginners, then primary, then Intermediate and ending with open level. The premierships are usually scheduled in the middle of each grade with separate awards at the end of the grade. In the open level, we will offer preliminary and Open Championships. If you are unaware which level to be in or which premiership to choose, please take a look at the rules. We also allow you to do two premierships, provided the first is at your level and the second is above it.
Dancers are also allowed to double up on their solos to increase their chances as long the the current level is danced.
All of our unique medals for solos are awarded on our award wall and at the award table. We do not award solos on stage. We do award the premierships and championships on stage with unique trophies.
Northville Parks and Recreation is a great gymnasium venue. There is plenty of room to offer two stages that will run simultaneous. We will also have venders, awards tables and an area for dancers to camp. Spacious bathrooms are offered nearby. The venue is near downtown Northville, so there are plenty of food options.
The Hampton Inn Detroit/Northville has a room block for $119 under BOF. It is located 20600 Haggerty Road, Northville, MI 48167. There are plenty to choose from though and everything is within an hour from Detroit Airport.
We will have a special that we hope you all partake in. It is going to be 16 bars to a reel, hard or soft. (8 bars to start and 8 bars to get off, plus the 16 for the reel). Obviously birds are the theme and doing a birdy is going to cause your score to soar. We ask that you enter singally or doubles to help with trophies. The more creative you get the better with costume, dance and drama.
We can't wait for April. Please share this feis with any Irish Dancer looking to compete to increase our competition overall.
