We are so excited for our 8th Annual Apple Slice! Our new venue is fabulous and close to the lakes and hotels. Please consider taking in more of northern Michigan and going the Sleeping Bear Dunes or Mackinaw Island as well. Lots to see and do here!
Our first recommendation for lodging is the Lake Cadillac Resort, 6319 East M-55, Cadillac. This is the only resort on the beach of Lake Cadillac and just minutes to the fels. Other hotels that we would recommend: Evergreen Resort, Holiday Inn Express and Days Inn. Feel free to ask us anything about your journey. We want your time in Cadillac to be worth the trip.
As you register, familiarize yourself with the rules which can be found on our website: http://http://dancenlda.com/. We are very flexible and accomodating, so feel free to ask questions if it's confusing. Whether you are in an organization or open platform, you are welcome and we hope to help you feis the way you normally do. Our basic structure comes from the WIDA syllabus, but our school also changed some rules to suit us.
Some things to note while registering. There are 7 solos in the first 3 categories with a premiership in each. The premiership is usually done in the middle. We call this the trophy dance, because an on stage trophy is given to the winners. The premiership is for 2 dances according to the level, and awarded to the highest score of the combined dances. The premiership is a preparation for when the dancer gets into Preliminary Championship and Open Championship. Again if you're not sure which Premiership to register for, let us help you.
We especially encourage you to utilize the following rules. Dancer must dance the solo level given them by their teacher or awarded at a previous feis, but the dancer can also dance the next level as well. We call that doubling up. If the dancer wins the next level, they can bump out of that level, as long as their teacher oks it. Also a dancer can dance 2 premierships, as long as their first premiership is at their level.
Preliminary Championship and Open Championship can also be doubled up, but make sure you understand the syllabus and note the amount of steps and extra set dance.
We also have a Fun Apple Reel! Scroll through our Facebook page to see all the fun costumes over the years. We reqeust that you only do 1 or 2 at a time, to help us with prizes. The dancer/s get 8 counts to enter and do whatever they need, then 16 bars of a Reel with either soft or hard shoes. Everyone gets something fun! We generally do 2 groups of younger and older.
We will only have 1 judge for Preliminary and Open Championship this summer. We offer 3 at our April Birdy Open Feis, however.
Yes there is a Hands/Ceili Competition. We love hands so plan to bring them: 2,3,4, 6 and 8 hands are welcome. For now there are 2 age groups: Under 12 and Over 12. Please make sure you check out the rules, or use the rules of your organization. If you have any issues, let us know.
A schedule will come out the Sunday before, but we rarely change our set up. The feis will start at 9:00 AM with beginners. You can find last year's schedule on the FB page.

We are excited to see you in August!
